We, The members of St. John's United
Church of Christ, Emmaus,
rooted in God's Love, faithful to Jesus Christ, and relying on the
power of the Holy Spirit, are called:
To worship and glorify God
To continue to work together to share our faith and love with people
To both teach and bear witness to the good news through our daily
living

Second Harvest Food Bank

Daffodils
Food provides the foundation for success and
growth in life. Unfortunately for 35 million Americans, hunger is
an everyday reality. St. John’s volunteers who work at the Allentown
Soup Kitchen can attest to the local
evidence of hunger. Through the power of networking, Second Harvest,
a national organization with hundreds
of state and local facilities, is able to economically provide food
where it is needed. A one-dollar donation will
provide 16 meals.
The Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and N.E. PA
provides food to local food rescue
organizations. Those with which we are most familiar are: Bethel
Bible Fellowship Church, Emmaus (monthly
food donations from St. John’s are taken there), the Sixth Street
Shelter and the Allentown Soup Kitchen
sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Conference of Churches. Second
Harvest of the Lehigh Valley annually
distributes 4,167,926 lbs. of food.
Food banks are feeling the decline of Federal support and our help
is needed. The Mission Committee has
designated March as “Second Harvest” month. We thank you for your
continued support.

Support the Troops
Our second annual Honor Our Veterans and Support
Our Troops project will begin on Sunday, November 11, 2007 with
honoring our veterans during both worship services. The event will
be coordinated with our national Veterans Day, also on November 11,
and will include two goals.
First, we will be honoring our members and friends in our community
who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. We
would like to include everyone – both young and old, active,
retired, and inactive, enlisted and officers, wartime and peacetime.
Whether or not you participated last year, we invite you and
encourage you to participate this year.
If you have served or know of a church or community member who has
served or is currently serving in any of the U.S. military branches,
please submit the following information to the church office or
email to Jo@JoDavis.com before November 5, 2007.
