Chicken Corn Chowder Soup Sale Cancelled!

Unfortunately, the Chicken Corn Chowder Soup Sale has been cancelled.

The Social Functions Committee does not feel that we have enough people to help cook chicken this year. Not sure if everyone knows just how many chickens we normally cook off to make about 600 quarts, but that would be between 70 and 80 chickens, depending on the weight of the chickens. So as you can see we need your help. Maybe next year we will try again.

Thank you.

Hospitality Notes

In order for our congregation to become more familiar with each other – to learn the names of new members and for them to learn the names of old familiar faces, as well as identifying visitors, we are encouraging everyone to wear name tags during worship services. For a start, we are using disposable stick-on tags until a more permanent model is decided upon. Let’s try to meet someone unfamiliar to us each week! Also, starting today, there is coffee or tea available all Sunday morning in the Christian Education wing. It is set up in front of the parlor. Help yourself, enjoying the warmth and conversation with others. Special thanks to Dennis and Jason DeFrain for making and installing the table. If anyone is interested in serving on the Hospitality committee or has any suggestions, please contact the church office.

All Are Welcome

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Applying Biblical Principles

Money is a neutral commodity, a means of exchange. It is neither inherently good nor evil. But a wrong view of money can become a problem to us.

In First Timothy 6:9-10, Scripture warns about the dangers of a determination to get rich: "But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil; and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains."

When we have a consuming desire to get rich, when we are obsessed with money so that it becomes the focus of our time and attention, then we have made it the number one priority in our lives. In that spot, it replaces everything, including God. We begin to find our security in money, not in God and in God alone.

However, when our view of God is right and our view of money is right, we will realize that money cannot buy security; money cannot purchase happiness; money cannot guarantee peace or joy or contentment. God alone can provide these essentials as we " . . . strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness."

In his book, The Gift of Giving, Wayne Watts said this: "God always lovingly instructs us in the path that is in our best interest and which will bring us the greatest happiness in life. Therefore, for our good, He instructs us to put Him first in all things, and this includes how we use our money."

How do you view money? Is it at the center of your life, thereby perhaps replacing God's rightful role? And equally important, are you using the money God has given to you to advance His kingdom and His righteousness?

Worship With Us!

I like to say that “Christian” is not just something to be, it is also something to do. That is what John means when he talks about walking in the light and walking in the darkness.
